Note: Xtra email settings are only for the @xtra.co.nz email accounts. Xtra accounts with @yourdomain.co.nz should use the Officemail (@yourdomain) settings.

For instructions for common email programs, click here.

For instructions for Evolution, a Linux mail program, click here.

Note: A new policy will soon be implemented globally by Yahoo! which requires all emails sent by Yahoo! servers to have a verified 'from' address:

This means your from address must match the Xtra username you are using to authenticate with the SMTP server.

For email addresses which are not @xtra.co.nz, you will need to authenticate each email address you want to send from. This can be done by accessing the 'Mail Accounts' area in your 'Mail Options' found at http://xtra.yahoo.com/mail

With SSL:

Incoming:

  • Incoming mail server: pop3.xtra.co.nz
  • SSL enabled.
  • Port 995

Username: First part of email address ie. abc123@xtra.co.nz = abc123

Password: Your password

Outgoing:

  • Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
  • SSL Enabled.
  • Port 465
  • SMTP auth must be turned on. Use either 'use same login as incoming mail' or manually type the username and password in.

Without SSL

Note: use only if client cannot accept SSL settings

Incoming:

  • Incoming mail server: pop3.xtra.co.nz
  • SSL disabled.
  • Port 110

Outgoing:

  • Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
  • SSL disabled.
  • Port 587
  • SMTP auth must be turned on. Use either 'use same login as incoming mail' or manually type the username and password in.

Some clients such as Outlook XP or 2003 may need to be updated to the latest service pack before SSL can be used. Other 'clients' such as exchange pop connectors may have issues connecting to a POP3 over SSL server
