Vodafone offer an email to SMS gateway for its customers. This gateway means that a customer can opt to have an email address created and all emails sent to that email address (64xxxxxxx@sms.vodafone.net.nz) will be sent to their mobile phone.
Cost: 20c per message. Included bundle of SMS excluded.
To register for the service:
Using your phone, send a text message containing "R 6421XXXXXX" Replace x with your phone number without the '0' to 901 IE: R 6421600600" if your mobile number happened to be 021600600.
UPDATE: Just sending "R" says it was successful but does not actually create an address.
To unsubscribe from the service:
Use your phone, send a text message containing 'D all' to 901.
UPDATE: The previous "R" command does not actually create the default address anymore.
To enquire on registration status or email address:
Use your phone, send a text message containing 'E' to 901.
To use the service:
Simply send an email to 64xxxxxxxx@sms.vodafone.net.nz. Replace x with your phone number without the '0'
The purpose of this service is to give a reply path for the SMS to Email platform. You can generate an SMS to the number +6421010099 in the format of email address, Space, message body EG: "email@provider.ext Message body" and send to +6421010099
It is strongly recommended that you use another mailbox, such as the standard email service that vodafone supply (www.vodafonemail.co.nz - Use your pop/imap password to login to your email directly) so that you can selectively control emails being sent to the above address. This means that you can potentially control unwanted or spam messages from reaching your phone and costing you money and create filters for SMS alerts.
